Carl Mason South

Carl Mason South, 73 of Hallsville, passed away on July 24, 2022.

Funeral Services will be held 6:00 PM Thursday, July 28, 2022, at the Red Top Christian Church in Hallsville. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until the time of the service Thursday at the church.

Carl was born on November 4, 1948, in Boone County, the son of Leonard C. and Jane (Norris) South.

He was a 1967 graduate of Hallsville High School, and later earned an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Drury College in Springfield, MO.

Carl proudly served in the United States Navy from 1968-1971, including a tour in Vietnam aboard the USS Dupont and USS Shangri La.

He was employed as a driver for Lyons Trucking, and 33 years with the State of Missouri.

He was very civic minded, serving as mayor of Hallsville for 15 years, as well as 9 years on the Hallsville School Board.

Carl was privileged to go on the Central Missouri Honor Flight on May 28, 2015.

Carl married Dorothy Anderson on October 25, 1985, and she survives.

Carl farmed part time as a labor of love. Carl loved Farming, tending cattle, attending auctions, and most of all his family. He was Super Papa to his grandchildren.

Along with his wife, Dorothy, Carl is survived by his step-sons, Richard Anderson (Kristina), and Ryan Anderson (Tracy); grandchildren, Grant and Logan Anderson, and Karina and Alek Gay; siblings, Susan South-Poff (Estil),  Eddie South (Janie), Jerry South (Becky); step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many lifelong friends.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, a stepson, Justin Gay.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Memorial donations are suggested to the Hallsville Historical Society or Red-Top Christian Church and may be sent in care of Fenton-Kendrick Funeral Home, 104 S. Collier, Centralia, MO 65240.
