This grant is funded through the Department of Natural Resources, in cooperation with the Solid Waste Management District, for disposal fees paid when purchasing new tires. The state uses this grant to help deal with used tires. It also cuts down on solid waste in Missouri.

The Centralia Parks and Recreation Department will replace 16-6 foot long park benches, 2-8 foot long park benches, and 27-8 foot long picnic tables. The tops of the new tables are made from recycled plastic. The bottoms are made from the recycled tires.

The picnic tables and benches will replace the tables at Nathan A. Toalson Bicentennial Park, JayCee Park, and the Middle Shelter at the City Recreation Park. The playground mats will be placed underneath the swings and slides at the 6 different playgrounds to provide additional safety.

Additionally, there will be Information Centers placed at Nathan A. Toalson Bicentennial Park, JayCee Park, and the Middle Shelter at the City Recreation Park, to show the benefits of the recycling program, as well as the recycling process. This project should be finished by November 2022.
