Pastor’s Desk: Are you ready for Christmas?

When someone asks us if we are ready for Christmas, most of us start thinking about the food to be made, the cards to be mailed, gifts that must be bought, and that list that needs to be checked so that no one is forgot. To many, that is part of what we do to celebrate Christmas, but not really what is needed for us to be ready for Christmas.

“Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign: See, the virgin will conceive, have a son, and name him Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14

A child will be born, and He will be named Immanuel, which means ‘God with us.’

To know if we are ready for Christmas, we need to answer the question, ‘is God with us?’ While talking to His disciples after His death and resurrection, Jesus told them that He was going to be with them always.

“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

Jesus stated that He will be with His followers always. Coupled with these verses, there should be no doubt that if we are followers of Jesus, nothing can separate us from His love. Meaning that if we have confessed our sins and given our life to Jesus, there is absolutely nothing that can separate us from Him.
