I don’t know how it felt for you, but despite being busy around the church, May felt like the longest month in the history of months. That is a deadly combination! Maybe you felt that way too with multiple weekend holidays and the end of the school year wrapped into one month tends to make it a bit of a wild ride. But now that we are on the other side, it is a good opportunity to take a breather. Between the ending of the school year and the weather warming up, this time of year is tradition in our culture to take that breather by doing something out of the ordinary. Perhaps it is a camping trip, road trip, lake trip, beach trip or even flying over a body of water somewhere around the world. On top of that, this may be the season where we travel more often to see family or have time taken up for kids’ baseball games and otherwise. These are all wonderful things and summer is a season worthy of celebration. As a natural result to all these splendid life happenings, there is often a lull in this season of the church. We may see fewer faces on Sunday mornings because of travel and other events.
Now, you are probably expecting the rest of this article to say “y’all best be in church anyway!” But it doesn’t. I truly believe that God celebrates our ability to see the world, to see our loved ones, to do things that we love, to enjoy the outdoors and many of the other things we do in the summer season.
