Robert Lory Skaggs

Robert Lory Skaggs, 93, of Fort Myers, passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Robert was born January 11,1930 in Centralia, MO to Lory and Betty (Wade) Skaggs.

Robert graduated from the University of Missouri, as a civil engineer, and earned his professional engineering license which he successfully applied to his work in the steel industry for 40 years. From childhood through his passing Robert was a faithful and stalwart member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in every city he lived.  Robert was proud of the Disciples of Christ tradition and always pushed for the best for his church.  He served multiple times as chairman of the church boards and other leadership positions, increasing membership and church expansion.  Over the years Robert led five different church building and expansion programs.

Married 70 years to his wife Hildur, they were totally devoted to each other and lived a charmed life committed to faith and family, serving the community on many boards and associations, golfing, traveling around the United States and the world. He never met a stranger, made friends wherever he went, and was a storyteller extraordinaire.

Robert is survived by his loving wife Hildur (Figenshaw) Skaggs, daughter, Barbara (Skaggs) Saunders, daughter in law Ruth Ann (Dykstra) Skaggs, sister Shirley Lewis (Howard), brother Bill Skaggs (Darlene), multiple grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; all of whom he loved and adored.

Robert is proceeded in death by his parents Lory and Betty Skaggs and his cherished son Michael Skaggs.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 3,  2023 at 11 am at Fort Myers Christian Church, (Disciples of Christ), 5916 Winkler Rd. Fort Myers, Florida 33919, with reception to follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers a memorial gift, in honor of Robert Skaggs, can be given to the Fort Myers Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
