Story Time: Fool me once

I typically stay away from discussing politics. Everyone has their own opinion and I want to leave it at that. I consider myself an informed person; I read the newspaper and watch the news but not so much that I lose myself in it. I am not someone that trash talks my elected officials because I was raised with rules of respect for my government and those who serve.

Lately, that has been a challenge.

After watching the ongoing circus in Washington D.C., I am over it. Suddenly, I find that I have something to say and I am about to say it.

To the leaders of my country and the people who surround you: shame on you.

Shame on you for taking my faith in you and turning it into a sham. You were supposed to be looking out for my best interests. You were supposed to be problem solving and working together to create a better place for all of us to live and raise our families. Unlike you, I have been doing my part. I’ve been paying my bills, shopping local, and trying to set something aside. I vote in every election; I pay my taxes and I pay them on time. I consciously behave in ways that help me maintain a decent credit score while keeping an open mind and heart when asked to help. I live within my means and I don’t make outlandish or selfish promises that I can’t keep.

I can’t say the same for you.

You and your cronies collectively have managed to ruin my credibility in the eyes of the world. You don’t have a working budget and throw money around like band-aids. You have overspent and under delivered and I am weary of your excuses. You threaten our veterans and intimidate our seniors because of your own behavior and refusal to work with others.

Shame on you.

Maybe I should l take your lead and bad mouth my co-workers or bully them with name calling and finger pointing. Maybe I should stop caring that the greatest place in the world to live, now looks to the rest of the world like a leaderless country of divided people who cannot pay their bills.

Shame on you.
