John Oscar Bequette, 84 of Hallsville, died Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Monday, October 31, 2022, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Centralia, with burial to follow in the Red Top Cemetery in Hallsville.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of the service Monday at the church.
John was born on December 9, 1937, in Farmington, MO the son of Beno Michael and Grace (Watson) Bequette.
John served his country in the United States Army for five years then served in the Army reserves until his retirement.
After returning from the service, John married Jeanne Boyd on October 26, 1963, in St. Louis, MO and she preceded him in death on March 17, 2015.
John is survived by his son, Jon Bequette and wife Paula of Hallsville, daughter, Janice Bequette of St. Augustine, FL; grandchildren, Zachary Bequette (Amanda Harbrecht) of Chicago, IL, Kelsey Bequette of Columbia.
Along with his wife, Jeanne, John was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Anita Figge, Michael Bequette, Edward Bequette and Eugene Bequette.
John is a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Centralia.
John enjoyed collecting, going to auctions, woodworking, carving, his Friday night dinners with friends, traveling, especially travelling with Janice. He loved to visit friends and family, always taking trips to see family at special events or reunions. John loved music, especially Jazz and Ragtime. He enjoyed many trips to New Orleans to attend the New Orleans Jazz Festival and to Sedalia for the Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival. He worked at the University of Missouri in many different roles, eventually retiring from the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center.
Memorial donations are suggested to Holy Spirit Catholic Church, or the Central Missouri Honor Flight, or the Fr. Tolton High School and may be sent in care of Fenton-Kendrick Funeral Home 104, S. Collier St. Centralia, MO 65240.
