Lady Panthers go toe-to-toe with Macon Tigerettes in District’s first round

The sun has set on the Centralia Lady Panthers’ 2021-22 basketball season.

Centralia’s Lady Panthers finished the their season 16-11 after their down-to-the-wire, nail-biter of a 33-31 loss to the Macon Tigerettes in the first round of district play, Saturday, February 26 at Centralia High School’s Jim Enlow Court.

Morgan Ross led the Lady Panthers with nine points. Baylee Beard Annie Robinson, Elly Crum and Jozelynn Bostick scored four each. Harper Sontheimer and Regan Anderson scored three each.

Macon’s Shelby Petree led Macon and the game with 13 points.

Macon led all four quarters, though sometimes just by a few. The first quarter ended 11-10, Macon, after Sontheimer sank a three-point to keep Centralia within striking distance.

The teams went into halftime with Macon still ahead, 17-12.

Macon kept the lead, and was up 25-20 going into the fourth.

“We just gutted it,” Richard Driscoll, Macon Tigerettes head coach said afteward when asked how they won the game. “We got some timely stops, barely made enough timely free-throws and did some things defensively at the end of the game that helped. It was the game that I expected it to be. I did not expect it to be that low-scoring, but I expected it to be a knock-down drag out type of game.”
