Mexico – 63, Centralia – 50
Centralia’s Lady Panthers lost a tough, but competitive game to the Mexico Bulldogs Wednesday, January 20 at the Macon Tournament.
Centralia led early, but Mexico, on the strength of strong free-throws and three-point shots, gradually built a 20-point lead that took Centralia most of the third and early fourth quarter to whittle down to five points before losing by seven.
Mexico won led at the end of every quarter. They led at the end of the first, 19-16 and 36-25 going into halftime. Things were tough in the third when Mexico stretched their lead to 51-29. Centralia hit the gas in the fourth,
coming to within five points at times before losing, 63-50.
Jocelyn Bostick led Centralia with 21 points. Claire Bennett had 10 and Eli Crum, seven.
May Miller lead Mexico with 26, and Riley Blaine made significant three-pointer contribution.
Centralia Head Coach Becca Schemmer said she was pleased with the effort that Centralia put out the defense of times and with how they were able to spread out the scoring with Bostick and Bennett tepping up to score in double digits she said she was also happy with the amount of pressure they were able to put on Miller via Harper Sontheimer’s defense.
The Lady Panthers are now 9-4. They play Harrisburg for third place, 6:30 p.m. Friday.
