Centralia, 25-20. Wright City, 25-18 and 25-12.

Centralia High School’s volleyball team lost a hard one to the visiting Wright City Wildcats, the night of October 10 on CHS’ Jim Enlow Court.

“I told them they had to execute their hits because their passes were good, our sets were good but our sets were not,” Lady Wildcats Coach Christine Klem said regarding how they came back after losing the first set to Centralia.

Wright City won the match, 2-1.

“I told them to just focus on one spot and aim for that spot every time,” she said. “And they were able to do that… Our serves were more consistent the second set.”

Centralia’s varsity won the first set 25-20, Wright City won the second, 25-18 and the third 25-12.

Wright City, now 6-7, also won the junior varsity game 25-20 and 27-25.

Clem said they came to Centralia wary of what Ashlyn Crum and Emory Biggs could do with a volleyball.

“Crum is really good at tipping it back over the net,” Clem said. “We tried to limit her opportunities to do that… Biggs can switch hit with either hand… Centralia hits corners, which is great, but tonight our balls were more direct.”

Sofija Ivanovic Lippman, head CHS volleyball coach saw two reason for the Panthers’ change of direction.

“They stopped moving their feet and stopped communicating,” she said when asked what changed between the first and second sets. “I know they can do it, they play great in practice, but are having trouble brining that great to the game.”

She said that effected their play and the frustration effected the rest of the night. “They have a really strong game in practice even though they did not do well tonight. We are just having problems transferring excellent practice into game… We have to go after every ball in the game… Inexperience, I think next year we will be much better.”

She complimented Baylee Beard’s serving. “She had four aces for 10 serves, that’s really good. Hannah
