If you haven’t seen the 2020 Centralia Lady Panthers Softball Team recently you have missed the most remarkable aspect of team sports, a group of teammates united together to make the team greater than the sum of its parts. Throughout this season, the entire complement of 23 players have worked together trusting each other and working to make each other better. This journey culminated in a dominating final week of the season and a Class 3 District 6 Championship! Each individual took on the role asked of them and performed in that role to her highest potential.
The week started Monday with a long trek up to Bowling Green to play the Class 3 state ranked perennial powerhouse and 2 time Class 2 state champion Lady Bobcats. The team came out with bats ablaze scoring Kaelyn Walters in the first with SAC fly by Ella Holiman. Bowling Green scored in the second with a solo home run, but this didn’t stop Centrala, who started the third with singles by Walters, Jozelynn Bostick, Holiman, Makenzi Adkisson, Abbie Ross, and a walk by Autumn Hawkins to put up a five-run inning. Centralia scored two more in the fourth with a single by Carter Hawkins, and RBI groundout by Bostick, single by Holiman, RBI single by Meredith Wright, and double by Adkisson. Bowling Green scored three in the bottom of the inning but could not score again, with the final score, 9-4, Centralia.
