Laurie D. Cox, 55, of Columbia, MO, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2022, at University Hospital in Columbia, MO. She was born on February 19, 1967, in Fresno, CA, the daughter of Ted Cox and Marjorie (Roberts) Cox.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Donlon McGovern of Columbia, MO and Lauren McGovern of Columbia, MO; her father, Ted Cox, and his wife, Karen, of Clark, MO; her mother, Marjorie Cox, of Arnold, MO; three sisters: Tracy Lanes and her husband, Steve Cwik, of Maryland Heights, MO; Teddi Schwartze and her husband, Nathan, of Arnold, MO; and Josie Niemira and her husband, Oleg Bogomolov, of St. Charles, MO; one stepsister, Jesse Galve, and her husband, Miguel, of Arlington, VA; several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.
Laurie worked as a freelance digital media marketing manager for several companies. She was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Mexico, MO, and was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary, where she held several offices. She loved singing, gardening, cooking, barbecuing and smoking meats, playing darts and billiards, and sports. She was an accomplished athlete, competing in varsity track and volleyball at Hickman High School, and was well-known for her singing ability, having been lead singer for the local band Diversion for a time and a regular at karaoke events.
A Mass of the Dead will be said at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Mexico, MO at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2022. Interment will be in the Centralia City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 24, 2022, at Oliver Funeral Home in Centralia, MO, with a part of the Rosary to be said at 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, c/o Oliver Funeral Home, P.O.
