Methodist Church coat drive coming up short

Posted on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 3:15 pm

Friends and members of Centralia’s United Methodist Church are doing their part to help people stay warm this winter.

The Centralia Methodist Church coat drive and give away is short children’s-sized coats, hats and mittens.

It is almost time for the annual Centralia UMC Coat Giveaway.

Doors open for coats and the church’s annual rummage sale 8 a.m. till noon, Friday and Saturday, October 25-26.

The goal organizers said is that nobody face the winter chill without a good coat, hat or set of mittens.

They have been accepting clean, gently used coats, gloves hats, scarves and mittens for the last few months with drop-offs collected at Prenger Foods, Chance Elementary and Centralia Intermediate Schools.

But they’ve come up a little short, organizers have said.

“Children’s coats are still needed,” said one organizer. “We are short of 12 month through size 4 coats for both girls and boys. Please bring to the church during office hours this week through Thursday if you can help.”

Historically the church gives away more than 100 coats or more between now and Christmas.
