Panther Boys win 57-45

The Lady Panthers blitzed the Marceline Lady Tigers 63-50 in the second round of Macon Tournament.

From Mary Kate Bennet’s opening shot to the final buzzer, the Lady Panthers were in charge.

Centralia’s offense went through Marceline’s 2-3 Zone like BoneZai the Basset hound through an Extreme Mart meat-lover’s pizza, while in the fist half the Lady Panthers’ Man-to-Man defense seemed taller and thicker than the Great Wall of China.

Centralia led 16-5 at the end of the first.

Marceline improved in the second but could not close the gap, and Centralia went into halftime 32-16.

Centralia kept the lead and finished the third ahead 55-35.

Lady Panther Head Coach Becca Schemmer put in her bench in the fourth and Centralia kept the lead, 63-50.

Bennett led the team and the game with 17 points. Jozelynn Bostick backed her up with 11 and Baylee Beard with 10.

Ramzee Bruner led Marceline with six.

Marceline Head Coach Jordan Beck said Beard and Bennett were the two Centralia players they were wary of.

She also said switching to a simpler offense, a press, is what got them back into the game after their five-point first. “Centralia played the way we expected, we just were not able to capitalize on it.

The Lady Panthers play for the consolation trophy against Kirksville, Monday, January 26.

Jackson Wells underhands for two against Brookfield.

The boys beat Brookfield 57-45. They will pay Kirksville for the championship, Wednesday, January 28.
