Country music star Tracy Lawrence once said “The only thing that stays the same is/ Everything changes, everything changes.” How true that is now, maybe more than ever. In a matter of weeks, we’ve moved from “business as usual” to “social distancing”, quarantine, schools and businesses closed, economic crisis, pandemic. That causes us to wonder “Why?” “When will things get back to ‘normal’?” What do we do when everything changes?
I would suggest the first thing we do is pray. The people of God are to be people of prayer. We seek God through prayer. In 2 Chronicles 7:12-15, we hear God’s words to Solomon regarding His response to His people’s prayer, particularly in times of distress. Just look at verse 14:
“…if my people, who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
God promises to hear us in times of trouble IF we seek Him, repent, and pray. God shows that principle constantly throughout Scripture. When God’s people seek him with humility, repentance, and prayer, He always responds.
