Pastor’s Desk: Houses upon sand, upon rock

Brothers and Sisters I feel inspired to write about a very important subject, especially considering recent events. This topic goes along perfectly with of my favorite parables:

“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.” (Matthew 7:24-27).

I sincerely believe that not only do our physical foundations of our homes need to be strong, our spiritual foundations need to be stronger more than ever!

We live in the Last Days foretold by Prophets of old, and Prophets today:

“My dear brothers and sisters, these are the latter days. If you and I are to withstand the forthcoming perils and pressures, it is imperative that we each have a firm spiritual foundation built upon the rock of our Redeemer, Jesus Christ.

So I ask each of you, how firm is your foundation? And what reinforcements to your testimony and understanding of the gospel are needed?” (Russell M Nelson President and Prophet Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints  October 2021 General Conference: The Temple and Your Spiritual Foundation).

“How firm a foundation, ye Saints of the Lord,

Is laid for your faith in his excellent word!

What more can he say than to you he hath said,

Who unto the Savior, who unto the Savior,

Who unto the Savior for refuge have fled?
