Revelation is a book that has captivated people for centuries. There are many who debate the meaning behind the book and how we apply these things to our lives today. It’s no surprise then, that so many can get lost in the dramatic imagery of Revelation and lose sight of the amazing truths the book contains. The first thing you should take away from this wonderful book is that Jesus is the main character. He is the Conqueror that is spoken of time and time again throughout the entire book. It is the Lord Jesus who by His death and resurrection has conquered sin, death, and Satan and will one day return completing His victory and ushering in His complete Kingdom.

Therefore, we must understand that the Jesus we see in Revelation is one of victory. Since our Lord has conquered and is victorious, we as His church are also victorious. In Revelation 1:9-20, Jesus reveals Himself to John in a glorified state. A long robe, a golden sash, feet of bronze, eyes like fire, His voice like roaring waters, hair white as snow, His face shining like the sun, and from His mouth a sharp two-edged sword. This picture of Jesus is enough to make John fall to the ground as though dead. Jesus is so overwhelming that all John can do is collapse on the ground. Yet in this display of power and authority over all of creation, we see Jesus do something interesting. He bends down to John, lifts him up and says, “fear not.” Fear not? How can one not be afraid of such a sight? This is the beauty of our God. He who is completely sovereign over all Creation is at the same time loving toward His creation.
