Pastor’s Desk: We need Revival

We are in need of a good old-fashioned revival. You may have fond memories of a big tent meeting with some good preaching, wonderful singing, people repenting, all followed by some good food. While those are wonderful memories, what we need goes beyond that. When I say we need a good old-fashioned revival, I am talking about a Holy Spirit led revival. A revival that brings Christians to true repentance. A revival that changes lives and draws us back to living for Jesus.

“Will you not revive us again so that your people may rejoice in you?” – Psalm 85:6

The Psalmist is praying for revival, and that is exactly what we need to be doing. We need to be praying for God to bring Revival to our own lives, to our churches, to our nation, and the world. It all starts with heart felt prayer.

“14 and my people, who bear my name, humble themselves, pray and seek my face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.” – 2 Chronicles 7:14

God is wanting each one of us Bible believing children of God to humble ourselves. He is telling us that we need to pray, seek Him, and turn away from our sin. We need to be honest about our sin, remember who is really in charge, and we need to cry out to our God.

We cannot dabble in sin; we must repent of it. We cannot hide parts of our lives from the all-knowing God. We need to give every aspect of our lives to God, the good, the bad, those things we wish could stay hidden, our joy, our pain, our celebrations, our shame, every bit of it. All of it belongs to our God.

“Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.” – Romans 12:2

How can we be transformed? How can our mind be renewed? How can we discern what is good, pleasing, and the perfect will of our God? How can a revival start in our own hearts? How can it spread from each one of us, to our churches, to our communities, and spread around the world?

Humble, heartfelt, repentant, prayer.

When revival hits our hearts and our churches, it will drive us to share the Love of Christ with others. We will be driven to share it with our friends, loved ones, the people in line at the grocery store, we will want to shout it from the roof tops.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” – Acts 1:8

Through the Holy Spirit working in us and our faithfully letting God use us, revival will spread. It will start in our hearts and spreads to the ends of the earth.
