Pastor’s Desk: Who is your Hero?

In my travels to and from work I recently saw something that really touched my heart.

Early one morning I saw what appeared to be a brother and sister walking together to school. The girl appeared to be about 10 years old. Her brother was much older, probably about 15 or 16.

As they walked together, I noticed the love and respect they had for each other. The little girl looked at him with admiring and loving eyes. She saw him not only as her older brother, but as her protector and hero!

Dictionary.com defines a hero as:

1.person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character..

2.a person who, in the opinion of others, has special achievements, abilities, or personal qualities and is regarded as a role model or ideal…

In today’s world,  movie stars, sports figures, musicians are often seen as “heroes” or someone to emulate or look up to. Unfortunately, in some circles, drug dealers, gang members and others are also seen as heroes.

In my life, my parents, grandparents are some of my heroes.  At times they suffered through much difficulty, trials and sacrificed much for me and my siblings. Sadly, I didn’t fully realize and appreciate all this until later in life after they…
