Late Thursday morning, July 13, at least 100 families were the beneficiaries of a produce giveaway sponsored by the Local Food Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program and United States Department of Agriculture.
Patty Hendren, of the LFCAP. said they work with local produce farmers,
“This is all locally grown produce,” Hendren said as people lined up in front of the Centralia Senior Center and others walked past carrying, or being helped by local volunteers, who carried the 20-pound boxes vegetables for them. “This produce actually came from a farm in Park Hills Missouri.”
She said the producers box it for them, “and we have a truck that delivers it. Today I have been in Macon County, Monroe County, Shelby County, Randolph and now I am in Boone.”
She said she expected to serve 425 people in Boone County…
