Centralia, Hallsville advance, Sturgeon moves to consolation bracket.
The Centralia boys won 71-50 against Macon and the Sturgeon boys lost 54-52 to Harrisburg.
That is the early word from the Centralia Invitational.
Logan Flashpohler led led Sturgeon with 12 points in a game during which Sturgeon never got closer than three points and Harrisburg never got further ahead than five. Jace Woods backed him up with 11 points and Jacob Brooks scored 10.
Harrisburg’s Brayden Ott and Kyler Longdon led their team with 10 each.
Centralia dominated Macon from the buzzer with John Durant scoring the first seven unanswered points in the first three minutes. Jackson Wells and Guy Moran added to that and Centralia was up 12-0 by 3:33 in the first quarter.
Durant led Centralia with a game-high 20 points, followed by Moran with 17 and Wells with 16.
Hallsville and North Callaway finished the tournament with Hallsville winning 69-38.
Clayton Cook led the Indians with 20 points, followed by Cooper Crane with 13. Jalen George and Colton Hobbs scored 12 each.
“We’ve only been playing together eight days,” said Brannon Bartlett, Indians head boys basketball coach. “We’ve been working on our ohana, our energy and, communication and our role-playing. If it continues like this you’ll see a lot more 31-point games out of them.”
In the other end of the bracket, Boonville beat Salisbury 47-37.
Thursday night Centralia plays Harrisburg at 6 p.m.; Hallsville plays Boonville at 7:30 p.m. and Sturgeon plays Macon at 9 p.m.
Wednesday night, the Centralia Lady Panthers play Sturgeon at 9 p.m. and Hallsville plays Boonville at 6 p.m.
