Sturgeon girls lose, 50-27: Boys lose 62-52
Friday was a tough night for the Blue and White in Harrisburg.
Sturgeon’s Lady Bulldogs spent four quarters fighting the good fight against a bigger, taller Harrisburg team.
Harrisburg came out on top every quarter: 17-4 in the first; 31-7 in the second; 42-15, the third; and 50-27 in the fourth.
Shelby Bailey led Sturgeon with nine points, backed by Nicole Vanlandingham with seven and Grace Thomas with six.
The boys faired a bit better.
Sturgeon dominated the first quarter,17-5, then according to Head Coach Michael Smith, ran out of gas.
“Fatigue,” he said. “Due to COVID, we have not been able to string together a week of team practices.”
The half ended in Harrisburg’s favor, 30-28.
They kept the lead in the third, 45-35, and finished the game winners, 62-52.
When Sturgeon stats are available, they will be added.
