After being unable to come to an agreement during their August 13 meeting, members of the Sturgeon R-V school board, during a special meeting the afternoon of August 17, agreed on the language to be used in their school re-entry plan regarding students’ using masks. They agreed to use the phrase “strongly encouraged,” to define the district’s position on mask use.
They also agreed to move the deadline for school registration to August 20. Superintendent Geoff Neill released a statement saying: “Due to the release of this update and the decision to change our re-entry plan, we are extending registration until August 20th. We understand that this decision may impact your family’s decision on attendance options this year. If you would like to change your existing registration, please contact your student’s building. The Sturgeon R-V School District will continue to work with our parents and students to do what is best for our students and staff.”
This is the new, agreed-upon language of the Sturgeon R-V’s back to school plan regarding masks.
“Face coverings: The CDC recommends the use of facemasks or cloth coverings. Students are strongly encouraged to wear cloth masks at all times; the district will have cloth masks for students if needed. Masks may also be provided by the parent or guardian. Mask/shield care procedures should be taught and reinforced at home.
