A solitary fan pushed early fall air through the Sturgeon R-V K-8 library.
The full complement of R-V’s seven school board members was there to discuss a possible green house along with the new combination Ag./Vocational-Technical Building and weight room.
R-V Superintendent Geoff Neill said the FFA Alumni group won a grant to build a green house, but there is doubt they will have time to accept the grant.
Taylor Bryant, FFF advisor and R-V ag teacher discussed the greenhouse grant. She referred to a needs assessment they took last year. She said they had 60 ag students in the high school and 20 in the middle school.
She said they applied for and were approved for three grants, the $2,500 Bayer Science Community grant.
The Bayer sciences stem Education Grant, $15,000
The 50/50 DESE Ag Education Grant for $15,000
She said they had to make a decision by Oct. 1, or DESE would allocate the funds to a different school district.
The proposed greenhouse would cost approximately $29,000. They would have to raise, Bryant said, $14,535 in matching funds.
