Velma Irene Sims-Allen, 100, of Mexico, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024, at the King’s Daughters Home.
Funeral Services will be at 12 p.m. on Friday, June 7, at Arnold Funeral Home with Dr. Todd Forman officiating. Burial will follow in Thompson Cemetery.
Visitation is Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
Velma was born on September 23, 1923 in Renick, Missouri, the daughter of Thomas E. and Ester Mattie (Stein) Belcher. She graduated from Centralia High School.
On April 23, 1944 in Thompson, Velma married Garl Sims. He passed away on March 25, 1986. She then married Wallace Allen on June 27, 1992 in Mexico. He passed away on September 6, 2005.
Velma worked at the Centralia Fireside Guard as a linotype operator for over 60 years. She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Thompson, where she was a Sunday School Teacher. After she married Wallace, Velma became a member of Lockewood Park Baptist Church in Mexico.
Survivors include four children, Tom (Sue) Sims of Raymore, Martha Azdell of Mexico, Warren (Cheryl) Sims of Blue Springs, and Deanna Sims of Centralia; two daughters-in-law, Sharon Sims of Maryville and Kathy Sims of Mexico; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandsons, one sister-in-law, Adele Beever of Columbia; step-son, Bob (Lynda) Allen of Mexico; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands, Garl Sims and Wallace Allen, Velma was preceded in death by two sons, Bill Sims and Darrell Sims; one son-in-law, Ron Azdell; and four siblings, Esther White, Tommy Belcher, Stella Vance, and J.W. Belcher.
